Bombay 3 months in……

2 Jun

Hello all!

This is going to be my journal of my moving to the crazy, dazzling, hardworking city of  Bombay. It has been a maddening ride, leaving Europe and coming to live here with all it’s uncertainties, craziness and beauty…I’ve marveled, felt amazement, sadness and anger at times. I’ve shocked myself by screaming madly at staring men on the streets and struggled to find the sanity within me as i’ve been dealing with the chaos surrounding me…..trying to find the balance and acceptance and stop fighting what IS.

Having now lived  3 months here i’ve somehow landed in this beautiful and mad town that is Mumbai.  I will share some of the pictures of what my first time has been about…. more to follow…..

The pic above is  a puppy i’ve named Babe and she is part of two stray families living in the building next door. There are 5 puppies and they are about 3 months old now. I’ve been feeding them daily, cooking rice and veggies and meat. I’m most likely known as the crazy dog lady now by the watchmen and our neighbors but i’ve learnt to not give a f*** what these people say, these dogs need food and love. (and i love them!)

I’ve made sure they’ve all got their vaccinations and de-worming. Sadly i have not been able to find a home for them; the preferred breeds as pets here are imported so called “”pedigrees”.  The indian breeds seem very intelligent and sensitive, a perfect pet, i just wish more people would realize this….

This is Ravi, my boyfriend’s sweet driver and his one year old son at their home at his first birthday party.  They live in a slum across from our building. Its a very vibrant and beautiful place and I would love to get to know the place and the people living there  a lot more.

I have just started a small English school at home and Ravi is my first student. It’s going great so far, he is so keen to learn as he wants to get a better life as we all do,  and most importantly he wants to be able to teach his son.

I’ve learned it’s hard to teach and also that I love doing it!

Ravi’s proud and stunning grandma, this lady is LOVE!!

This is our maid Shashi at her home, she cooked us a beautiful dinner of Aloo gobi and Paneer Masala and topped it with some sweet sweet Chai. I will update more of her and her life……

And more of Bombay is coming soon….

Shanti Shanti, Anna
